Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) held its annual Digital Marketplace Seminar (DMP) on 31 August 2017. Themed “The New Age of eSports” this year, industry sector and different stakeholders were invited to discuss the market potential of eSports and its socio-economic impacts. DMP was held at the Cyberport and officiated by Ir. Allen Yeung, JP, Government Chief Information Officer, OCGIO, Mr Herman Lam, CEO of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, and Mr Simon Chan, Chairman of HKIRC, and nearly 500 participants attended the event.
As eSports are taking the world by storm, HKIRC collaborated with a PhD student of Hong Kong Baptist University from July to August to conduct a territory-wide online survey titled “Are eSports on the Rise in Hong Kong?”. The survey aims to understand public views on eSports, as well as to capture the trends and developments of eSports and its impacts on the young generation.
